Beyond Labels – Powered by UPPAREL & Assist Ability Australia
Australia’s leading textile recycler and the country’s most innovative disability services organisation have joined forces to create a unique capacity-building program. By pooling our resources and expertise, we aim to provide a comprehensive and effective training program to enhance the employment skills and capabilities of our participants.
Through this partnership, we’re going beyond expectations, beyond stigma, and far beyond the labels of the clothes we divert from landfill. we hope to create a program that has as much of an impact environmentally as it does socially!
Over the past couple of years, UPPAREL has developed innovative solutions to prevent textiles from entering landfill. However, there are a number of critically important manual processes involved in order to prepare the textiles for a new life. Led by industry leaders, participants will be given hands-on experience in the sorting and decommissioning phases of the process.
The participants of the program will be able to track their progress as they make a real and measurable environmental impact, all while learning life long social and employment skills!
We understand that everyone’s needs and requirements can vary greatly, so we’ve ensured that the Beyond Labels program supports people of any ability. We assign participants with tasks that suit their capacity and work to their strengths whilst remaining engaging.
We are committed to ensuring that our program is accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of diverse communities.
Whilst the program is currently only available for Melbourne participants, we are looking forward to launching additional support hubs across the country. With this expansion, we aim to reach and support more people with disability and communities across the country, helping them develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources needed to build capacity.
